Frequently Asked Questions

  • WHAT IS BASE JUMPING?

The English acronym BASE (Building - Antenna - Span - Earth) includes the four main objects from which a BASE jumper normally jumps. Base jumping is a really different sport from skydiving. During a BASE jump you do not jump from airplanes but from fixed objects, equipment and altitudes are different, and freefall times are drastically short.

  • WHY SHOULD I ATTEND A BASE JUMPING COURSE?

Base jumping is one of the most free and democratic activities one can practice. You could take a parachute and jump from a mountain without any instruction. Likely you will die or be seriously injured, but nobody could stop you from doing it. Your awareness and self-respect are the only things that can stop you from getting hurt. Thinking BASE jumping is easy or that being an experienced parachutist is enough to skip proper training is something that has already caused many victims in the past. But once again, nobody can stop you from following your beliefs except yourself. A BASE jumping course held by qualified and well-known people among the international BASE jumping community will put you in a condition of calculated risk, the perfect condition to learn quickly, correctly and especially within an acceptable risk threshold. To you the next move!

  • HOW LONG DOES A BASE JUMPING COURSE LAST?

It depends on the type of course and on the participant’s commitment level. However, a FJC course usually lasts from 4 to 6 days, whereas a Full course lasts from 8 to 10 days. Weather permitting.

  • IS BASE JUMPING DANGEROUS?

BASE Jumping is a potentially dangerous activity, like many other outdoor activities or like driving a car or a motorcycle in certain conditions. BASE Jumping will never be a 100% safe activity, just as no other sport that is played at high speed in a matter of seconds will ever be. A good technical, physical and mental preparation can definitely mean the difference between playing Russian roulette and practicing an activity that involves risks which become manageable if they are approached in the right way.

  • WHY DON’T YOU USE THE RESERVE IN BASE JUMPING?

Usually the rigs used in BASE jumping do not have a reserve parachute, mainly for two reasons. The first one is that given the relatively low altitude and speed at which this activity is carried out, there would be no time to apply standard emergency procedures, something that is normally possible in a skydiving jump, for example. Secondly, because the base jumping parachute as it is conceived is actually a reserve itself, if not even better. As one well-known manufacturer of BASE jumping materials puts it: "We do not jump without a reserve, we jump without a main”.

  • CAN I ATTEND A BASE JUMPING COURSE WITHOUT SKYDIVING EXPERIENCE?

Certainly not with the BrentoBaseschool! But unfortunately you may find someone that with no skydiving experience or a very limited one, could put a BASE rig on your shoulders. Be warned that in that moment the level of objective risk will skyrocket! Highly NOT recommended.

  • WHAT LEVEL OF AUTONOMY WILL I REACH AFTER HAVING ATTENDED A BASE JUMP COURSE WITH BRENTOBASESCHOOL?

At the end of the courses, the future jumpers will have acquired skills, basic techniques, and the right mental approach to build their career as BASE jumpers. After that it will be up to the novice BASE jumper to exploit their full potential in the time and manner that suits him or her better. And never forget that you are practicing a risky activity, where every decision or wrong action can have serious consequences.

  • COULD I USE A TRACK-SUIT OR WING-SUIT DURING THE BASE JUMP COURSES?

During the BASE jumping courses (FJC and Full course) organized by BrentoBaseschool, wing-suits and tracking-suit or aids of any kind are not used. This is because the course policy is to first teach you how to walk, and then how to run. If at the end of the complete course you want to take another step forward, we will be happy to help and give you some advise on the best moves you can do next on the way to achieving your goals. Development one single skill at a time should be the mantra of every BASE jumper.

  • CAN I GET PHOTOS AND VIDEOS OF JUMPS PERFORMED DURING THE COURSE?

Yes of course! All videos and photos will be given to you at the end of each jump.
